Interview

RAMESSES

Dimanche 30 septembre 2012

How are you doing ?

Adam Richardson : Good good, a bit tired.

You released an album and an EP last year. How was the response for them ?

A.R. : Really good. We released Possessed by the Rise of Magik on vinyl, a Justin Broadrick (Godflesh

) remix version. It's been a very positive response, really good.

Can you tell us a bit about your collaboration with the Chapman brothers ?

A.R. : Basically we saw the Fucking Hell artwork and I tried to get in contact with Jake and Dinos and I got lucky. They very kindly let us use exclusive images of the Fucking Hell sculpture by an amazing photographer called Hugo Glendenning. His photographs of the sculpture are breathtaking to say the least. So that's how we came about and we've just had a good relationship with them since. And then Iron Crow was used in a film last year called The Organ Grinder's Monkey, which has got to be seen to be believed. It's mental ! That was a real honour to be used in a film. And then there has been some bits and bobs going with them. We were going to do a collaborative installation in a famous massive shop in Central London and it basically got busted by the people organizing it when they realized Ramesses

were involved. The plug was pulled and Jake called me, not long before it was meant to happen, to say it wasn't gonna happen. And then there has been trouble finding anywhere that would do what we were attempting to do with them which is like a sonic stand of... Anyway maybe it will happen one day, who knows ? Hopefully it will.

You've been on a small tour this week. How has it been for you ?

A.R. : It's been great. It's been really intense. Some really good shows, great people. It's been really good.

I noticed Tim Bagshaw isn't playing with you. Is he no longer a member of the band ?

Mark Greening : No, he's not in the band. He basically moved to America and got married and that was it really. He just didn't wanna come back. He's got a new life over there.

So he's not gonna be on the future records either ?

M.G. : No, I don't think so.
A.R. : It remains to be seen. As Mark says, he's living in America.
M.G. : It's too much for him to keep travelling back over here. He went over there, got married and basically the plan was for him to come back and still do gigs and records.
A.R. : What we started doing for the last gigs was he flew back over to England.
M.G. : But it's a bit too much to come back all the time. Unfortunately that's the way it is.
A.R. : So we got Mike from Bong

to help us out on guitars which has been really great.

And in the future do you already know who's gonna replace him ?

A.R. : We haven't really got that far. All of this just sort of happened recently. We'll see what happens but it's not the end of Ramesses

for sure.

Do you have any future plans ? Any new album in preparation ?

A.R. : Not really, no. We have a lot of stuff written but I don't know what's gonna happen with that now, because Tim has written a lot of the last stuff. We just have to wait and see I guess. One way or another we'll carry on, definitely.

Is there anything else you'd like to say ?

A.R. : Just thanks for the interest and the support. Stay high !
