Interview

CHROME DIVISION

Mardi 28 mai 2013

How are you ?

Shady Blue : Really good !
Shagrath : Very good, excited !
Shady Blue : Looking forward to the show ! First time at Inferno.

You're haven't toured much...

Shady Blue : It depends, we've been around for about ten years now and I think we played maybe ten shows. (laughs) So once a year !

How come ?

Shady Blue : Mainly because we've had other priorities.
Shagrath : If we had the possibility to clone ourselves, we would play a lot more shows. But everybody is quite busy doing other stuff so... We would like to play more live but it's sometimes difficult.
Shady Blue : It's not that people don't want to book us because we have had to turn down so many offers for tours, and gigs and festivals over the years so it's really sad but we are having some free time coming up now so all of us can focus on Chrome Division

. We're gonna make a new album and we already booked some more shows this year.

Can you tell us more about that new album ?

Shady Blue : We've been working on it for... two years now ?
Shagrath : Yeah. I think the songs are gonna be quite varied. It has elements of 70's, 80's rock, metal and more chill stuff. It's quite exciting to put all the songs together on an album because they're quite different from each other. It will be rock of course but the sound will be different because we changed the lead guitar player which adds a lot of new elements to the music as well.
Shady Blue : That's the main reason for taking this long to do this album because we have turned around two members. We had to let Ricky go and Luna left us because he wasn't satisfied. No hard feelings but we had to turn the whole thing around, getting two new people. But that's all for the best. It's been a real fresh addition to the band so we could start almost from scratch again, make new songs with the new line-up which is permanent by the way.
We're really getting there. We have like ten-twelve songs in the making now so we're just polishing them into the finished record and we'll be going to the studio very soon to record some songs.
Shagrath : We take the time we need. It's no rush really. We have to be satisfied.

No pressure from the label ?

Shagrath : We take the time we need to get it done. And I think that's the way it should be when you make a song. There's no reason to stress.
Shady Blue : Everybody wants a perfect album, not a stressed album. We don't work with deadlines. We'll release it when it's done and then it's gonna be good ! (laughs)

So it's the first time you play this festival. It's quite surprising to see you play here because the line-up is more extreme...

Shady Blue : It is, but I think it should be refreshing. Because you know, if there are forty black metal bands, maybe you get tired after a while, I don't know. There are a lot of different people from all around the world at this festival. So I think some hard rock/metal to close the first day at the John Dee will be much welcomed. I think it will be packed and I'm looking forward to it !
Shagrath : It's definitely something different from the other bands as you said. We had that test back in 2009 I think it was. We played a black metal festival in Germany...
Shady Blue : Kings of Black Metal ! We were invited there.
Shagrath : We were like : "Should we do this ? or maybe we should skip it". We decided to do it and it was totally awesome. Everybody got into it.
Shady Blue : Huge success !
Shagrath : I think it's good to kind of break off a festival with something completely different.
Shady Blue : We did this black metal festival in Germany and the press afterwards said we were one of the best bands so we must do something right. That's cool.

Do you have any actual touring plans besides a few gigs here and there ?

Shady Blue : No plans but the door is more and more open in the future. We're aiming for it but I can't pinpoint exactly when. We have to focus on these shows now that are coming up in Italy, Germany and today of course. Then it's the album and then we'll see.

Do you have any idea of the album release date yet ?

Shady Blue : We're aiming for an October/November release. We're hoping to get it out before the year is over.
Shagrath : We've already done a new video for the album as well.
Shady Blue : Yeah, two songs are recorded and one video. So it's there already. And we're gonna do three more songs in a couple of weeks.
Shagrath : And hopefully we'll get the chance to do a full tour, maybe when the album comes out. It's hard to say right now but that's what we aim for.

Who would you like to tour with ?

Shagrath : Something in the rock genre... I don't know, but I do like when a tour is booked with different types of bands. It's think it's always a good combination, instead of having three bands that sound exactly the same because that's so boring for the people. I think we could fit in a lot of different places, if it's heavy metal, black metal or whatever. All of that could work fine so we'll see.
Shady Blue : Festivals of course, that's attractive. It's the arena we feel we belong in. The rock'n'roll, the big stages... There are a lot of bands I could imagine doing a tour with, like Down
Down

Shady Blue : : Good bands, all good bands in our category so to speak.

Do you have anything else to say ?

Shady Blue : Nah ! Just hoping people will welcome us at Inferno and will appreciate tonight's show. We're gonna give 100% and break some balls and...
Shagrath : Rock out with the cock out !
Shady Blue : Hope you will enjoy it !
